Ten Things :: Winter Edition

Stuck in a rut?  Tired of seeing the snow fall – especially when spring officially started ten days ago? Are you over the gloom and lack of color outdoors? Below are a few ideas to celebrate the last days (hopefully) of winter and welcome warmer days of spring and summer – all from the comfort of your own home.

Things to do During the Winter – When Stuck Indoors.

1. Wear sunglasses on your head. Every time you catch a glimpse in the mirror – it’ll remind you of summer days…and you’ll look ridiculous!
2. Wear flip flops around the house.
3. Download your Spring/Summer ’09 Hits – Download new tunes to blast in your car/house this summer on a road trip or quick run to the store!
4. Plant flower/vegetable seeds inside!  Great kid project.
5. Make lemonade, bbq, iced tea, strawberry shortcake, fruit pizza – etc – Prepare and enjoy “summer foods.”
6. Be prepared to spend the whole day inside with all your fall/winter favorites.  Hot chocolate, pot of soup, classic movies, game day!
7. Stay in your warm jammies all day.
8. Spring Clean – it may not be spring outside, but you can get a head start on enjoying the spring weather (when it shows up) by getting your cleaning done early!
9. Read your favorite books ALL day.
10. Craft it up!  Finish all those projects – knitting, scrapbooking, organize your recipes, sewing.
Even better – combine a few of them.  You’ll completely forget the snowflakes falling outside!  (We can dream, right?!)

The Way We Were Made

I have been reading “Kelly’s Korner” blog for a few months – the other day she posted the following video. It’s too amazing not to share. Enjoy and be prepared to get your socks knocked off!

Psalm 139:14-18
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

How precious to [b] me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!

Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand.
When I awake,
I am still with you.

Pick Up Lines

A friend just posted this list of Christian pick up lines on Facebook.  I got such a kick out of it that I HAD to post it on my blog.  My favorites are starred.

Nice Bible.
Is this pew taken?
I would go through more than Job for you.
You are perfect, except for all that sin.
When Moses struck the rock, water flowed from it like a river. I promise I will never strike you.
You are so unblemished that I would sacrifice you.
*The Word says ‘Give drink to those who are thirsty, and feed the hungry’; how about dinner?
I didn’t believe in predestination until tonight.
*I believe one of my ribs belongs to you.
Your name must be grace because you’re irresistible.
Is this the transfiguration…because you are glowing.
I would work 7 years for your sister, but I would work 7 more years for you.
Can I buy you a non-alcoholic beverage?
*My favorite species of vegetation is the church plant. (cheesy, but funny!)
*Now I know why Solomon had 700 wives… Because he never met you.
I used to believe in natural theology, but since I met you I’ve converted to divine revelation
Your hair is like a flock of goats descending from Gilead.
How many times do I have to walk around you to make you fall for me?
*How would you like to join my Purpose Driven Life?
If you say no, I will rip out my hair and my beard.
If you say no, I’m going to tear my clothes, get in my sackcloth and rub dust into my head.
*Unfortunately I cant perform miracles but I’ve got enough bread and fish for 2 people.
So, my parents are home, you wanna come over?
Let me remove my sandals before I come any closer.
I really like your spirituality, it goes well with that shirt.
Welcome to the christian family; the only family where brothers & sisters can marry each other legally.
You can come crash at mine tonight. i have a separate room prepared.
*If we were around with Noah…then you, me…pair.
I consider myself to be fisher of women. This would be referred to as “casting my net”.
****Me. You. Song of Songs: the remix.
When I read Philippians 4:8, I think about you.
*I would leave 99 sheep to come and find you…and then i would carry you home joyfully on my shoulder.
You make the Queen of Sheba look like a hobo.
Let’s go for a ride in my Zondervan
*You float my ark.
As Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite protected the field of lentils, so I wish to protect you.
I will never give you reason to hammer a tent peg through my skull.
If you were a leper I would still hold your hand, even if it wasn’t attached.
I would have asked you out to dinner, but I just put all my money in the offertory basket.
*You are a Galations 5 fruit salad.
I would bring your father twelve-hundred Philistine heads for just one date with you.
***Not a big fan of your last name, but that’s cool, I can change that.

My Life. In Pictures. :: Day 2 – On My Table

Today the challenge is a photo of something on the table.

I snagged a shot of my night stand table.  Usually, I have a pile of books, a water bottle (not glamorous) and a stack of hair ties!  Oh, and a lamp of course!  I cleared off the water bottle and hair ties – but left the rest and ended up with this . . .
This week I am participating in a photo challenge over at Everything Except the Grill.  If you’d like to join in – it’s not too late!  Click here – to read all about it!

{joeybelle designs} Looking Up

I just realized that I have put in at least 25-35 hours of work this week!  Very little of it is paying, but prep work to get my freelance business off the ground and running!  I’m getting really excited and looking forward to the future.

Over the past week or so I have been focusing on:
• new designs
• how to get new design projects
• networking
• where my passion is (design/business related)
• business goals and aspirations
I think for awhile I was so discouraged that I gave up on the dream of having my own freelance business.  Finally, things are starting to come together!  Praise the Lord.
Two things that have helped:
– First and foremost – Jesus.  I have really prayed about design inspiration and a desire to do design work.  For the past nine months I have felt like I have been in a design rut or even designers “block.”  So – obviously Jesus is the one to thank and praise here!  🙂 I finally have a passion and drive to tackle new and challenging projects.
– Secondly, I really think “working out” has helped my attitude about “work.”  I chose graphic design as a career path because it was an interest and a hobby.  I dread that it even became just work.  This post will explain better.

I just got home from my last water physical therapy session.  I started in late December.  On Monday I will start going to the therapy pool (heated, salt water pool) all by my grown-up self. It’s in the same pool as before, so I can still ask the therapists questions if I need to, but I will be doing the program by my self and on my own time table.

In the past three months I have:
– gained strength in my right arm
– my balance has improved (first time in 15 years!)
– more endurance.
– Praise the Lord!
Years ago I was told (by a PT) that I would never gain or increase strength or endurance, so I am very pleased. Today my PT told me that I should expect to continue improving over the next year and then plateau.  He said I could possibly improve by as much as 30% – never 100% – but that was never my goal anyway.  To me, 30% is 30% more than I ever anticipated or expected. He also told me that if I don’t keep up the schedule I will lose strength, etc.  It’s good to have that reminder – especially on the days when I do not want to make the effort to go.
But as for me, how good it is to be near God! I have made the Sovereign Lord my shelter, and I will tell everyone about the wonderful things you do. Psalm 73:28
